About the PHSSR
The Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR) is a global collaboration between academic, non-governmental, life sciences, healthcare, and business organisations. Its main objective is to make sure health systems withstand future crises.
Pre-pandemic, many healthcare systems around the world were already struggling to contain costs and meet demand amid aging and growing populations and rises in non-communicable diseases along with workforce and other challenges. The pandemic further exacerbated these issues and starkly exposed weaknesses in health systems.
Looking toward the future, stakeholders in the sector are beginning to look at how to build back better. To that goal, the PHSSR was established in 2020 by the London School of Economics, the World Economic Forum, and AstraZeneca. They were later joined by global-level partners that include Royal Philips, KPMG, Apollo Hospitals and the Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation. The partnership―active in more than 20 countries―also includes additional organisations at regional and national levels. In Greece, the HTA Laboratory, University of West Attica, Athens, and the Institute of Health Economics (i-hecon) lead the research.
Through its work, the PHSSR and its partners seek to work with local academics, governments, policymakers, and other stakeholders, such as providers and payors to build knowledge and guide action through research reports that offer evidence-informed policy recommendations to improve the sustainability and resilience of healthcare systems.
