Welcome

Supporting people to give up any unhealthy behaviour can be tricky; yet as Health Care Professionals (HCPs) we routinely get asked to think of ways to help patients drop unhealthy habits and take up healthier behaviours. Sometimes, some techniques seem to work. Some other times the ‘tried and tested’ seems to let us down. This webinar will outline psychological evidence that points to common barriers that get in the way when people attempt to undertake health-related behaviour change. It will also discuss a broad framework that can be used to address behaviour change and outline the wide range of techniques available to support patients. Tools such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy will be introduced and broad principles behind each one will be outlined.

The webinar is organised by SCOHRE, the International Association on Smoking Control & Harm Reduction in collaboration with Oxford Brookes University.
