Acute Hepatic Porphyria (AHP) is a family of rare and debilitating genetic diseases that is characterized by painful and progressive neurovisceral attacks and chronic symptoms between attacks. This ultra-rare genetic disease is often mistaken for conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia, polyneuropathy, endometriosis and even psychiatric disorders. As a result, people may experience delays of up to 15 years before receiving a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
